"one of the good old timers, always had something for anyone in need" quote from son-in-law Ivan Reichelt 18/10/2002

From his date of birth John was not fathered by Peter Convary as he died 29 October 1869 and John born in 1875
On John's birth certificate the father column also says illegitimate, mother "Annie Flemming now Conberry", obviously misheard Convary. The informant is Margaret Smeaton "a friend". Witnesses nurse Mrs Henry (difficult to read). John was born in Ballarat and his name is registered as John O'Haunlan.

John occupied Allotments 69 to 70 Parish of Purchember in 1899.

Memories from Elizabeth Keong from her Dad Len Convery - August 2012
Dad used to say the his father was actually called up to Gilgandra to work because he was know as a ?master "keystone setter" which is why Dad was almost born in a covered wagon on the way up from Victoria- might be why he was always happier with wheels under him!

John did the key stone in the church in Gilgandra and supervised some of the construction not certain if I went to the right church when we were in Gil 2009 - the original section is still solid but the newer extension was going to have to be replaced
1)john is not mentioned on either the brickworks or the church website
2)the dates are a bit stange as Dad was born 1915 and the church records show it wasn't started til about few years later- delayed by WW1. the church was built with funds donated by an englishman for the care of his son during WW1.
Dad said the house they lived in when John died had a brick pit in the backyard and he made the bricks for the house there.
Len had the job of herding the goats to a paddock near school but he had to carry his shoes and only put them on while he was at school
Dad had a real thing about Mum making her own clothes
I believe Glen dropped out of school to support them
